Virginia Tech students in hammocks

Housing and Residence Life is committed to providing students with safe and healthy living spaces that help them learn and grow. Part of that commitment includes efforts to make Virginia Tech a more sustainable place to live, work, and play.

Every year Housing and Residence Life works with the YMCA at Virginia Tech to support Y-toss, which is one of the largest sustainability events on campus. We also work with the student group ESO to offer battery and e-waste recycling stations in several residence halls on campus, and we provide recycling services for all on-campus residents.

In addition to sponsoring programs, Housing and Residence Life also makes periodic upgrades to housing facilities and infrastructure, including the addition of low-flow shower heads and the pursuit of LEED certification for new residence halls. You can read more about how we are greening our facilities here (coming soon!).
