Room and Dining Rates

Academic Year Room and Board Rates
The academic year consists of two semesters (fall semester and spring semester). Rates below are expressed as per-semester rates. Rates for summer sessions are listed separately as they are not part of the fall/spring semester rates.
Room and board rates for the next academic year are posted after being approved by the Budget Office. These rates are typically posted in late spring semester. Housing Services reserves the right to correct any billing errors and/or fees that do not match the established rates as set forth by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The Residential Telecommunications Fee supports wired network connectivity and high-performance wireless network coverage. This fee of $197/semester/person has been listed as part of the housing package in the past. For more transparency and to better explain charges, this will be listed separately from housing on the university account.
The Living-Learning Program Fee is $100 annually and is charged to residents of Living-Learning Programs. These include residents of Ambler Johnston (The Honors Residential Commons and the Residential College at West Ambler Johnston), the Creativity and Innovation District (Innovate, Rhizome, and Studio72), Harper (Mozaiko), Hoge (Galileo and Hypatia), New Residence Hall East (Orion), O'Shaughnessy (The Leadership and Social Change Residential College), Payne (Meraki), and Pritchard (Aurora, GenerationOne, Thrive, Transfer Experience, and VIA). This fee supports the cost of operating the program and events associated with the LLP spaces.
The multiple-occupancy rate means cost per resident for shared residency of 2 or more residents per bedroom. Single-occupancy rooms are of extremely limited availability in undergraduate housing. Most on-campus housing is double-occupancy in the civilian areas and double- and triple-occupancy in the Corps of Cadets area.
As indicated in the Housing and Dining Contract Terms and Conditions, some students who are assigned to overflow housing may be eligible for a credit on their housing charges as determined by the Housing Services office. Typically, these are credits applied to residents who are assigned to live with a resident advisor, are placed in a converted study lounge, or placed in a room configured for higher occupancy than the standard yearly configuration during an overage situation. When approved and applied, this credit has historically been approximately 20% of the semester rate prorated for the amount of time the student is in temporary/overflow housing.
Students holding a residence hall contract who leave the university during the first week of class will forfeit $100 of their residence hall fee. Thereafter, the semester room charge, less $100, will be apportioned over the first six weeks of the semester. A student who withdraws after the Friday of the sixth week of the semester will be charged the full room and board rate. Any eligible refund accrual is based on the room check-out date.
Please see the Dining Policies website for information on Dining Plan Refunds.
Refunds will be applied to the student's account by the office of the University Bursar. Questions concerning adjustments to room charges should be directed to Housing Services at (540) 231-6205. Questions concerning adjustments to dining plan charges should be directed to Hokie Passport Services at (540) 231- 5121.
