What brought you to Housing and Residence Life?

I initially heard about the job from my sister’s roommate – he is a past worker too, Jordan Brown, who also worked here for about four years too, since his freshman year. He told me to apply, and I did, I’ve been here since October freshman year!

What's your favorite part of your job?

I’d say running errands, answering phone calls, helping out people who come into the office. Really any opportunity we have to help people and give them a positive experience. I also love golf cart trips and just overall being in the office! Also the people here are very nice, very inviting. There's never an instance where I say "ugh, I don't want to go back to work," I always find myself coming back.

Do you have a favorite story from your time working here?

One of my favorite stories honestly was this past summer when the pandemic hit. We were still in the office and there was a lot of craziness going on with moving out everyone. I feel like we got closer as coworkers, especially the student office workers, as we were helping people move out and being everywhere around campus. I honestly enjoyed that the most because we were able to still provide services to people during a rough time.

I also love when we celebrate birthdays! Everyone bakes a homemade dessert. It was amazing tasting so many kinds of desserts - so many different variations throughout the four years, so many things I've never had, and I love them every time!

What would you say to someone considering working in HRL or in Student Affairs?

If someone is looking to work here I highly encourage it. I feel like it's probably one of the best jobs on campus that you could probably get. The environment is amazing.

What's next for you?

I'm majoring in Animal and Poultry Sciences right now with a science option, and I'll be graduating with that on Saturday! Next, I have an internship at the Great Institute located in Gambia, Africa. We will be working on a river project throughout the whole summer. We'll be taking and collecting samples and surveying the environment and the surrounding area. I leave May 27th, so a very quick turnaround. I’m very excited about it!

Is there anything else you want to add?

I have much loved all of my coworkers past and present, they have definitely shaped my Housing and Residence Life experience. Seeing people come in and come out, meeting so many different people and seeing them also move on to bigger and better things is amazing too. Much love for my HRL family!
