Gender Neutral/All Gender Restrooms

Note: The data shown on this map is not verified and should be used with caution. Restrooms within the residential sections of buildings are for residents and their guests only. A building legend can be accessed via the side panel toggle located in the upper left corner of the map.

In the spirit of Ut Prosim (That I May Serve) Virginia Tech is constantly adopting and creating more inclusive practices to help support our commitment to improving the quality of life and the human condition within the Commonwealth of Virginia and throughout the world. As part of this work, the “Good to Go” initiative highlights resources available on the Virginia Tech Blacksburg campus, helping individuals identify restroom facilities that best fits their needs. Due to building code and ADA standards, restroom signage can often be confusing for individuals who identify within the trans community and/or have a disability. A gender-neutral facility may not have the same capabilities as an all gender restroom, and a bathroom that was ADA compliant when it was created may not be today.

For more specification, a geographical information system (GIS) map has been created to identify specific facility characteristics that may be of use to faculty, staff, students, and visitors. For example, knowing where to find free menstrual products or which restrooms are lockable can be an invaluable resource. While this information may be especially useful to disabled people or those who identify within the trans community, these facilities are available to all individuals. The map allows the user to locate their building of choice and explore its offerings. A green dot specifies that a facility may be available for them to use. Clicking on the green dot allows the user to familiarize themselves with the facility’s location, description, capacity, ADA status, offerings, and ability to lock.

Please email Dr. Ashleigh Bingham with concerns, being as specific as possible as to what is wrong with the data shown, and what we can do to help.
