Jason Johnson

Assistant Director for Living-Learning Programs

Jason serves as Assistant Director for Living Learning Programs within the Academic Initiatives unit of Housing and Residence Life. He works directly with all living-learning programs, academic and tutoring services offered in our Academic Resource Centers, and with our residential curriculum. He received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry and a master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from the University of Vermont.

Prior to his current role working with living learning communities, Jason joined the Virginia Tech team in 2010 as a live-in Residential Learning Coordinator, working with a number of our on-campus communities. He saw the power and potential of living-learning communities and continues to work to expand and enhance our current communities and connections. Jason also has a passion for social justice and inclusion and helping our communities becoming more accepting of all people.

In his spare time, Jason likes to spend time with his wife and two cats, read, run half-marathons, play music (guitar, ukulele, mandolin, banjo, piano), and attend live music concerts.

Jason’s favorite Aspiration is Curiosity. He often finds himself researching different subjects, seeking out the answers to random questions, and tinkering with things by taking them apart to see how they work. Curiosity is most definitely one of the leading principles of Jason’s life.
