As a Housekeeping Manager, Don works in Owens Hall Room 34 along with colleagues in maintenance, the key shop, purchasing, and supply. Don has served on the Campus Community Emergency Response Team and has specialized training in lead and asbestos, OSHA, and blood-born pathogens as well as numerous human resource and management certifications. Previously, he served as Custodial Operations Coordinator for Squires Student Center. Don is a graduate of Northside High School in Roanoke.
For Don, every day is challenging and different. One of his favorite parts of his work is his interaction with students and the opportunities he has for further training and education in his field.
Don pursues diverse interests including kayaking, fishing, hunting, NASCAR, country line dancing, ghost hunting, and football.
Don's favorite Aspiration is the university motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve). He believes the Principles of Community stand as a foundation for the development of personal relationships, physical spaces, and intercultural experiences. Serving on a submarine in the Navy, Don said he learned the true meaning of That I May Serve. Don believes that it is a daily practice we all need to install in our lives.
